Series: True Self

In this series of paintings I aim to share the journey of finding one’s ‘True Self’. Personally, now in my 40’s, I feel compelled to learn more about why I think, act and behave the way I do. Our experiences, memories and the stories we tell ourselves are all layers that need to be exposed and explored in order to find one’s ‘true self voice’ that perhaps has been buried or shushed or just not yet discovered. In my past works, I have created trees by painting line work as a top layer. In these paintings I am scraping away the paint to expose the layers underneath. This is the careful work that needs to be done to expose the beauty, strength and roots of my true self. I may also combine this with adding line work layers over top symbolizing putting pieces back together once the uncovering work as been done, creating a stronger and more beautiful place to exist. This personal work is evolving and never ending and I hope these paintings encourage you to join me on this journey.
